The public enemy in summer must be mosquitoes. It carries diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, ZKA virus and Chikungunya fever. It can be said to be one of the most dangerous animals on earth. Scientists around the world have been looking for solutions to mosquito bites. According to L'Ouest-France, Italian researchers have recently found that eating sweets can stop mosquito bites.

A study published in the American Journal PLOS Biology has shown that scientists at the University of Milan have shown that the urge to bite mosquitoes is suppressed after eating sweets. This behavior is controlled by genes.

Scientists have studied Aedes albopictus and found that eating sweets can inhibit mosquito bites for five to six days. The researchers divided the subjects into two groups: one group ate sugar water and the other group did not. Comparing the activity of mosquitoes in the process of approaching the two groups, it was found that mosquitoes were less interested in the blood of people who consumed sugar water, while those who did not consume sugar water were more likely to be bitten.

Italian scientists have further studied mosquito genes and found that one of them, called Vg-2, can determine the production of certain proteins during the development of female mosquitoes. This protein drives mosquitoes to bite. However, after eating sweets, the protein production declines.

Zoologist Paolo Gabriel, who participated in the study, said bites could be effectively prevented by controlling the amount of protein in mosquito-related genes. International scientific organizations will carry out further research on this issue.
